Acne Scars

Acne scars can be a persistent reminder of breakouts, even after the acne itself has healed. These scars can appear as raised, pitted, or hyperpigmented areas on the skin and may make the skin look uneven or damaged. While acne scars are a common skin issue, effective treatments are available to help soothe and rejuvenate the skin. At IWH Medspa in Ventura, CA, we offer advanced treatments that target acne scars, restoring a smoother, clearer, and more even complexion. Our expert team uses cutting-edge technologies to treat both new and old acne scars, helping you regain confidence in your skin.

Treatment Options

At IWH Medspa, we provide a variety of treatments tailored to reduce the appearance of acne scars:

PicoSure® Laser Treatment

PicoSure® is a powerful laser treatment which targets and breaks down scar tissue. It stimulates collagen production, which promotes the healing of acne scars and improves skin texture. PicoSure® is effective for both hyperpigmented and textured acne scars, offering noticeable improvements after just a few treatments.

Morpheus8® RF Microneedling

With Morpheus8®, radiofrequency energy is combined with microneedling to provide deep skin rejuvenation. In this treatment, collagen and elastin are stimulated, which helps to smooth out pitted acne scars and improve overall skin texture. Morpheus8® is ideal for treating more stubborn, deep acne scars and can be used on the face and body.

SkinPen® Microneedling

SkinPen® is a microneedling treatment that creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering the body’s natural healing response. This promotes collagen production, helping to reduce the appearance of acne scars. SkinPen® is effective for improving skin texture, reducing pitting, and brightening hyperpigmentation from past breakouts.

Chemical Peels

The use of chemical peels can enhance the skin’s texture and tone by exfoliating the outermost layer. This treatment can reduce the appearance of surface-level acne scars and can also help with discoloration caused by acne. A series of peels may be recommended for optimal results.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy

PRP uses your own blood’s platelets and growth factors to rejuvenate your skin. It stimulates collagen production and enhances the healing process, making it an ideal option for reducing the appearance of acne scars, particularly those that are pitted or textured.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Acne scars form when a breakout causes damage to the skin’s deeper layers, disrupting the healing process. The body’s response to this damage can lead to excess collagen production (resulting in raised scars) or insufficient collagen production (resulting in pitted scars).

Most treatments for acne scars, like PicoSure® or Morpheus8®, require a few sessions to see optimal results. A series of treatments will improve skin texture and tone are usually noticeable within a few weeks to months.

While treatments like PicoSure® and Morpheus8® may cause mild discomfort, numbing creams are used to minimize any pain. Microneedling and chemical peels may cause slight irritation or redness, but these side effects are temporary.

The results from acne scar treatments can be long-lasting, especially if combined with proper skincare. However, ongoing maintenance treatments may be required for deep or stubborn scars.

Most treatments have minimal downtime. After PicoSure® or PRP, you may experience slight redness or swelling for a few hours to a day. Microneedling and chemical peels may cause mild redness or peeling for a few days.
